Nissan to add 810 jobs in Smyrna

Tennessean -- Plans to add a 3rd shift at Nissan North America’s plant in Smyrna will likely ripple through the Tennessee economy as the car manufacturer’s suppliers boost staff levels to meet ramped up production.

Nissan said Friday that it will add 810 new jobs and run the Smyrna plant around-the-clock for the first time in its history. The additional shift will allow it to increase production of six Nissan and Infiniti vehicles.

The addition of a third shift raises production capability on Nissan’s car line to 60 an hour. By early next year, the car line will produce six vehicles: the Altima, the Leaf, the Rogue, the Pathfinder and the premium Maxima sedan as well as the Infiniti JX.

In the Tennessee automotive world, the addition of one direct job results in about five indirect ones, said Tom Bre

This is not good news to the union because they are not union jobs? 810 job is a good start and the fact they are not union makes it better...

Good for 810 more jobs, Nissan, Smyrna and Tennessee! The private sector is able to create more jobs and Not use taxpayer money to do it.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Another "foreign" car built here by Americans - just like Honda, Toyota, and others. Meanwhile, GM is expanding in China.

That is good for the people of the area but I also like my Ford's but that being said most North American automakers use ideas from all over the world if they think they are better. Some of GM's top selling vehicles were not designed here or originally built here but came from across the pond. Chrysler is really now a French company with plants in North America. Globalization is a reality and the US for the last 20 years owes its existence to China and US consumers have made China the top manufacturing company in the world.
